Celebrations in Kenya
Mr. Vishram Chhabhadia of M/s Shajanand Creative Ltd, Kenya with his family.
Mr. Vishram Chhabhadia is from Gujarat, India but he has been in Kenya for more than 2 decades and it has certainly become his second home. He reveals that close to 50,000 Indian expats live in Kenya and many are into a variety of businesses like construction, quarrying, mining, hotel industry and supermarkets.
“Indians live in many cities like Nairobi, Mombasa, Eldoret and Kisumu. Diwali is certainly a main festival here. Many Indian communities have moved into this country and each one celebrate the festivals in their own style. Most of the families meet in cultural halls or temples and distribute sweets. Crackers and shopping are other important aspects of Diwali. Businessmen start their business calendars from Diwali Padwa,” says Chhabhadia.

Celebrations in Uganda
Mr. Suresh Patel also hails from Gujarat but moved to Uganda 18 years back and has established himself in the east-African country.
“There are atleast 18,000 Indians living here and many run successful establishments. There are two malls run by Indians which caters to the needs of the Indian community. Indians from various communities stay in Kampala, Uganda. Diwali is celebrated with great pomp here with all the essential things like sweets, crackers and new clothes, intact. Each one stick to their traditions but the festive spirit is felt in the air. We look forward to the new business calendar with hope,” says Mr. Patel.

Diwali is all about lights, brightness and happiness. Let’s spread cheer on the occasion!
